I’ve always been a huge fan of MAC cosmetics, even before I became a professional make-up artist. Infact, a huge majority of my kit is from the brand! I love how long wearing the products are, the great level of pigments they contain, the ease of blending…I could go on all day!
However, one thing that MAC do so well are their collaborations with famous faces. In 1994, they launched the massively succesful Viva Glam campaign featuring many celebrities including Lady Gaga, Pamela Anderson & Dita Von Tease. Every sale from the range goes towards the MAC Aids Fund and has raised over $200 million.
In addition to Viva Glam, the brand also do extremely interesting collaborations with a variety of stars from the world of music, fashion and film. This year already, there have been some great ones revealed that I can’t wait to try the products out!
The most artistic one, I have seen this year is the Beth Ditto collaboration. I adore this promo image – it’s fabulous!! I think Beth is an inspired choice for a collection as she is truly a inspiring creative and extremely expressive through her make-up & clothes. I love this image – it’s almost Leigh Bowery-esque. It’s due to be released in June & I can’t wait to see what it will include!
Another fantastic range, that launched at the end of last year is the Daphne Guinness collection. She is like the Fairy Godmother to fashion so it’s a sure fire hit with the fash pack! Guinness is known for her huge collections of Couture and an inspiration to many fashion lovers. David LaChapelle shot the promo images and they are striking. The cool tones in the collection are absolutely beautiful and really express Daphne’s look. She was apparently inspired by the Old Master painters when choosing the colours. I love the colours, they’re gorgeous!
The third campaign that I am delighted MAC have launched is their Miss Piggy collection. It may only a a small range (consisting of Miss Piggy Pink Eye Shadow, Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack & 36 Lash) but I think it is genius! Having grown up watching The Muppets, I couldn’t help but feel a little giddy when I saw this! I think it goes to show that MAC have a sense of humour and express that make-up should be fun.
A lot of make-up brand campaigns are very serious and I love the fact MAC aren’t afraid to use different faces (and characters!) for their imagery. It also really represents every thing the brand stands for about being for “all ages, all races, all sexes”. Every type of person (or piggy!) is represented through-out their campaigns.
All this talk of products, has made me want to go shopping!! Can’t wait to get my hands on all of these lovely pieces and look forward to MAC’s future collections.
