A few weeks ago, I worked with one of my favourite hair stylists, Kim Rance at the L’Oreal Mizani hair competition. The prestigious, nationwide competition required entrants to create an exquisite colour and style on a female model that complemented an editorially inspired AW 2012/13 total look on a model of African/Caribbean decent. Kim made it to the final and was amongst five other stylists competing for the prize
We were invited to L’Oreal HQ to create the final look for the competition. We had two hours to fully prepare our model with hair, make-up & styling. We had a fantastic model, Armani and Kim created a stunning curled look on her. With make-up, we decided on a smudged black eye, with the greater emphasis on the lower lash line, similar to what had been seem on the AW 12 / 13 catwalks. I also added subtle glitter to underneath the eye, so it was almost like she was crying glitter. On her lids, I blended in bronze tones with the black shadow.
I contoured the cheeks (I like to use MAC’s studio fix powders to do this) and added MAC’s Mineralized Skinfinish bronzer in “Warmed” on the cheeks.
With the lips, we kept them fairly nude and used a gorgeous Nars lip gloss “Sweet Dreams”
The standard was extremely high and all the models looked fantastic. Unfortunately, Kim didn’t win but did so well getting into the final six. It was a fantastic day to be involved with!
